600 Plant Species
Plant extinction over the past 250 years equals 600 plants.
Two and half times the number of birds, mammals and amphibians extinct. That is two species lost each year.
'The research published in Nature, Ecology and Evolution found that 571 plants have disappeared in the past 250
217 of Bird, mammal and amphibians thought to be come extinct over the same period'
The significant point to make is that these extinctions are happening at 500 times their normal 'background rate', normal losses without human intervention.
This is bad news for us all as Plants provide the oxygen we breath and the food we eat, and make up the backbone of the worlds eco-system.
